Record on electricity exchange in Moldova: largest volume of traded power since its launch

The OPEM electricity exchange today recorded a new high for the amount of power traded in a single day. On the Day-Ahead Market (DAM), the largest volume of electricity since the exchange began operating was traded – over 304 MWh, equivalent to about 3 per cent of the country’s consumption. The data today was presented by the Director of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), Constantin Borosan.

The record level comes just one day after the previous all-time high, confirming the quick growth trend of transactions on the competitive electricity market.

Constantin Borosan emphasized that buy-sell transactions were recorded in every hourly interval between 08:00 and 17:00, closely matching the generation profile of electricity from solar photovoltaic power plants.

According to the official, the electricity price ranged from 68.5 bani/kWh to 82 bani/kWh. The weighted average price of the traded electricity is 70.9 bani/kWh.

“The power exchange provides benefits to everyone – producers, who can sell the electricity they generate here in our country; suppliers, who can increase the share of the free market and boost competition; and consumers, who can access quite attractive electricity prices, especially if they adjust their consumption – particularly processing industries, water pumping stations, metal smelters, industrial electric furnaces, or electrically driven lathes – by shifting operations to hours with cheaper electricity,” explained the ANRE Director.

On December 10, 2025, for the first time in Moldova’s history, a transaction took place on the electricity market – the Day-Ahead Market (DAM), managed by the Electricity Market Operator of Moldova (OPEM).
