Repair of 40 km of road starts in north-eastern Moldova

Chisinau, 8 September /MOLDPRES/ - A company from Turkey and another one from Moldova will participate in a project on rehabilitation of the road Codru Nou-Soroca-Unguri-border with Ukraine. The segment of road subjected to rehabilitation has a length of about 40 km.

Attending the event on the launch of the works was President Maia Sandu. She stressed the essential role of this project in Moldova’s economic development.

According to the state enterprise, State Administration of Roads (ASD), the main works provided for in the project include: rehabilitation of the present roadway, including widenings (an additional lane for weighty lorries); arrangement of lateral access and of a roundabout; construction of a protection wall and of drainage systems; arrangement of electric lines, cables of underground communication and sewerage; implementation of measures of enhancing the traffic safety, etc.

A company from Italy will supervise the carrying out of the works and will ensure the observance of the standards and quality imposed.

With the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), this project will improve the accessibility to the Soroca region and the border with Ukraine, as well as the road infrastructure from Moldova, contributing to the economic development in the region, ASD said.
