Chisinau, 14 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) announced today that the antibiotic preparations for the treatment of animals will be marketed only under veterinary prescription.

The ANSA Order on restriction of the use of antimicrobial substances in animals for combating antimicrobial resistance entered into force on 13 September. "Veterinary pharmacies will no longer sell veterinary drugs with an antimicrobial effect (antibiotics) without a veterinary prescription", indicates the institution.

Antimicrobial resistance has an impact not only on public health, but also on an economic level through the costs generated by the treatments, the social costs, the decrease in productivity and competitiveness. "The large-scale use of antimicrobial substances in human and veterinary medicine in recent years has accelerated the emergence and spread of resistant microorganisms", said ANSA.
