Construction site of Vulcanesti-Chisinau Overhead Power Line is expanding over a distance of 110 kilometers, representing about 70% of the total length of the line, with over 130 assembled pylons and around 340 foundations.
According to the Energy Projects Implementation Unit (UCIPE), work is underway in several localities simultaneously in Cimișlia, Taraclia, Leova and Gagauzia. The site is expanding in two directions, towards Vulcanesti and Chisinau.
At the Chisinau Electric Station, the foundation construction has been completed, with the assembly of metal structures for electrical equipment underway.
Both at the overhead line and the electric station, numerous teams of workers are involved, numbering over 200 people, UCIPE notes.
According to the work plan, the line will be completed and connected to Moldelectrica infrastructure through Vulcanesti Electric Station and Chisinau Electric Station by the end of the year, the officials say.
The 400 kV overhead power line will have a length of 157 kilometers. Thus, over 500 pylons and 1500 kilometers of conductors will form a strategic link between the south and center by crossing eight districts and 35 localities. Depending on the electric system regime, the line can ensure the transit of up to 630 MVA of power, which could meet 50% of energy consumption needs during peak period.
Construction work on Vulcanesti-Chisinau line began in April 2024 and is part of the Power System Development Project, funded by the World Bank Group. Its value is 61 million euros, of which about 27 million euros are for the construction of the line.
Vulcanesti-Chisinau power line's construction is a project of strategic importance for the energy security of our country. The new power line will allow the transport of electricity from Romania or other European markets to Chisinau without going through the Moldovan power station located in the Transnistrian region.
