Moldova opens accession negotiations on two more EU chapter clusters

The Republic of Moldova is opening accession negotiations with the European Union on 17 more chapters, grouped into two clusters covering the internal market, competitiveness and inclusive growth. President Maia Sandu made the statement at a meeting in Luxembourg, where the fourth Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference is taking place.

According to the head of state, with the opening of negotiations on the Internal Market and Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth clusters, the Republic of Moldova will have negotiations open for 24 of the 33 accession chapters.

Maia Sandu highlighted the contribution of officials from ministries and public agencies, as well as the team of the Bureau for European Integration to preparing the country for EU accession.

“Behind this progress is the work of hundreds of people who, for several years, have been working tirelessly to prepare the Republic of Moldova for EU accession. They are managers and officials from ministries and public agencies, under the guidance of the team at the Bureau for European Integration, who are harmonizing legislation, preparing reforms, and negotiating the chapters,” the president wrote on social media.

The head of state noted that the work of these specialists is not always visible, but their efforts have contributed to advancing the European integration process within a short period of time. Maia Sandu met with some of the employees involved and thanked them for their work.

The president stressed that the accession process still requires a great deal of work and expressed confidence in the professionalism and perseverance of the teams preparing the reforms and negotiations.

The two chapter clusters cover areas that are important for the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European single market and for the development of economic competitiveness. The Internal Market cluster comprises nine chapters, while the Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth cluster includes eight chapters.

The meeting in Luxembourg is the fourth Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference dedicated to accession negotiations.
