10 hospitals in Chișinău and Bălți to be renovated with EU support
Patients and medical staff in 10 healthcare institutions in Chișinău and Bălți will benefit from better conditions and more energy‑efficient buildings. The Government has approved today the signing of the grant Agreement between the Republic of Moldova, the European Investment Bank and the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects for the implementation of the project Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova.
The project envisages the energy rehabilitation of about 203,000 square meters of public buildings. The investment will help reduce electricity consumption by around 20% and thermal energy consumption by up to 55%, while nearly one million citizens will benefit each year from medical services in improved conditions.
“Renovating and upgrading the energy performance of hospitals will improve conditions for patients and medical staff, reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs, and have a positive impact on the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu.
At the same time, the project will help create more than 3,500 jobs in the construction sector. The grant Agreement amounts to 10 million euros in non‑reimbursable funds and complements the 30‑million‑euro Financing Contract with the European Investment Bank, the 30‑million‑euro loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the initial grant Agreement from the EIB worth 12.4 million euros.
The total cost of the project is estimated at almost 87 million euros, and the implementation period will be six years.
