Moldova accelerates transition to electric transport: at least 600 charging points by 2030
The Republic of Moldova will expand the national network of charging stations for electric vehicles, encourage the use of electric transport, and introduce clearer rules for the development and operation of charging infrastructure. The measures are provided for in the National Electric Mobility Program 2030, approved by the Government.
The program aims to modernize the transport sector, reduce pollution and dependence on imported fuels, and bring the Republic of Moldova closer to European standards in the field of electric mobility.
One of the most important changes concerns the expansion of charging infrastructure. By 2030, the number of public charging points is expected to increase from approximately 250 in 2025 to at least 600. At least 30% of the new charging points will be located outside the capital, so that residents across all regions can benefit from these investments. They will be developed in cities, along major national roads, in rural areas, and near border crossing points. Special attention will be paid to the installation of fast and ultra-fast charging points to facilitate long-distance travel and reduce the difficulties faced by electric vehicle drivers.
Charging electric cars will become simpler and more transparent. The program provides for improved rules on the installation and operation of charging stations, clear display of tariffs, the possibility of making payments without a subscription, and access to information about the availability of charging points. At the same time, a national system for recording and monitoring infrastructure will be developed, enabling the collection of information about charging stations for better user information.
The program also sets targets for increasing the number of clean vehicles. By 2030, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are expected to account for at least 15% of the national vehicle fleet. A reduction of at least 15% in CO₂ emissions from road transport compared with 2025 is anticipated.
The program also aims to attract investment in charging infrastructure and green technologies, develop maintenance services for electric vehicles, and train specialists in the field.
Through the implementation of the National Electric Mobility Program 2030, the Republic of Moldova aims to make electric transport a more practical option for citizens and businesses, reduce disparities in access to infrastructure between localities, and build a more modern, efficient, and less polluting transport system.
