Moldovan acting PM has meeting with EU Ambassador to Moldova

Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi today had a meeting with EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

At the meeting, the acting PM gave assurances that this government would do its utmost, in line with the legal provisions, to continue the implementation of the actions provided for in the Association Agreement with EU and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Aureliu Ciocoi also said that the functionality of the executive structures would be ensured on the crisis period till the establishment of a new cabinet. In the context, Ciocoi expressed thanks to the European Union for the constant support of Moldova, including on the economic and sanitary dimensions.

The EU Delegation head informed the acting prime minister about the results of the visit to Brussels by the Moldovan president and reviewed the necessary actions agreed upon.

The officials stressed the importance of supply of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine for the citizens. Aureliu Ciocoi said that the medical and sanitary institutions of Moldova were prepared for starting the vaccination process. In this respect, decision-makers approved the national plan on anti-Covid-19 immunization, which describes the organizational stages and the decision-takers on all chain of vaccination. At the same time, the Medicine and Medical Devices Agency is prepared for the registration, in the national system, of the vaccines recognized internationally. The Labour, Health, Social Protection Ministry on 15 January sent the entire set of necessary for the reception of vaccines on the Covax platform – a quality which will cover 20 per cent of Moldova’s population.

For his part, the head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau confirmed the European Union’s willingness to allocate to Moldova 21.4 million euros of the police reform support programme, as well as the signing of the contract for resilience worth 15 million euros, as grant, and the disbursement of these financial means. The financial assistance is meant for enhancing the capacity of response in the context of the pandemic situation.

The officials tackled the importance of reforming the justice and edifying strong institutions – priority aspects for boosting the Moldova-EU cooperation. The sides also reviewed other subjects on the long-term multilateral cooperation, including on the Eastern Partnership’s platform.
