
Moldovan government gives positive notification for agreement on regulating construction of aqueducts of Romania-Moldova interconnection
Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet today gave a positive notification to a draft law on the ratification of the agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania on the regulation of the construction of aqueducts, signed in Chisinau on 20 May 2021 and a protocol on the amendment of the agreement, signed in Iasi on 10 November 2022, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The document’s goal is to construct a system of aqueducts, due to undercross the Prut river for the supply with drinking water and purifying residual waters in settlements the districts of Nisporeni, Ungheni, Glodeni and Falesti. At the same time, the protocol on amendment changes some provisions of the basic agreement in the part regarding the placement of some aqueducts, for the flexibility in decisions and allowing the undercrossing of the Prut river also in other settlements, agreed upon by the Sides.
Under the Agreement, the investments on the territory of Romania and Moldova, up to the inter-connection points, including the crossing of the border, will be carried out by the regional operator of water and sewerage supply from Romania. Also, investments on the Moldovan side will be needed too, which will be borne by Moldova’s government, in order to connect the settlements from the neighbourhood of the aqueduct built. They are to be correlated with the priorities set forth by the cabinet and the means available in the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL).
According to the Agreement, the investments on the territory of Romania and on the one of Moldova, up to the interconnection points, including the crossing of the border, will be carried out by the regional operator of water and sewerage supply from Romania and Moldova will pay the costs of connecting the settlements from the zone in which the aqueduct will be constructed.
At the same time, a regional development project titled, Improving the living standards of the rural residents through the construction of the interconnection aqueduct of the Prut river - Macaresti village with drinking water for 13 settlements of the Nisporeni and Ungheni districts, is under implementation from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. It sees the construction of 54 km of aqueduct, which will be connected to the undercrossing point from the Macaresti village.
The ratification of the agreement and protocol on its amendment will contribute to the development of a system of interconnection aqueducts from Romania and Moldova, creation of the market of drinking water and formation of the services of consumers’ supply with water.
