Over 2000 people kicked off government's spring afforestation program
Over 130,000 saplings of acacia, ash, willow were planted today on an area of 30 hectares in the village of Geamăna, Anenii Noi district. Over 2000 people, including business representatives, public institution employees and citizens who joined the Ministry of Environment's initiative participated in the action, part of the national campaign Forest Generation.
Across the country, over 120 locations are available for planting, allowing citizens from different regions to contribute to afforestation. In total, this spring, 3500 hectares of forest will be extended and rehabilitated by planting over 8 million saplings. Moreover, by 2032, according to the initiative of President Maia Sandu, 145,000 hectares are to be afforested as part of the national campaign.
The campaign was launched in 2023 to rehabilitate the degraded forest land and create new forests. In the first two years of the program, 15,000 hectares were planted.
