President discussed Moldova’s European path and expansion of bilateral cooperation with Austrian parliamentarians
President Maia Sandu had a meeting today with a delegation from the Austrian Parliament, composed of members of the Foreign Affairs Committees of both chambers of the legislature — the National Council and the Federal Council. The delegation was led by Petra Bayr, Chair of the Committee in the National Council, and Christine Schwarz-Fuchs, Chair of the Committee in the Federal Council. The head of state welcomed the bicameral presence of the delegation as a sign of the importance Austria attaches to its relationship with the Republic of Moldova.
During the discussions, the parties highlighted the importance of bilateral political dialogue and their shared interest in deepening Moldovan-Austrian relations. The President thanked Austria for its support of Moldova’s European path and emphasized Chișinău’s firm commitment to the EU accession process. The head of state also underlined Austria’s role as a source of investment and economic opportunities for Moldova. The projects implemented with Austrian support in areas such as rural development, local infrastructure, and the wine sector were also highlighted. Maia Sandu particularly noted Austria’s contribution to the modernization of technical and vocational education, including through the development of colleges in Nisporeni and Leova and the opening of the Austrian School in Moldova.
The President also thanked Austria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Stella Avallone, who is concluding her mandate in our country, for her significant contribution to deepening bilateral relations over the past six years.
