BTA: MP Stresses Importance of Preserving Moldova's Taraclia District as Centre of Ethnic Bulgarians
During a Bulgarian National Day reception in the Moldovan capital Chisinau, MP Rositsa Kirova, who chairs the Bulgarian National Assembly Committee on Direct Participation of Citizens' and Interaction with Civil Society, highlighted the need to support the Bulgarian community in Moldova, saying that Taraclia District should remain the centre of ethnic Bulgarians in the country. Kirova was visiting the Republic of Moldova on March 3-4.
The MP told the attending President of Moldova's Parliament, Igor Grosu, that after a Consulate of Bulgaria was established in Taraclia and after the Taraclia branch of Ruse University was set up, the next step is to preserve the status of the district as a separate administrative unit of Moldova and restore relevant local institutions. "This is a cause that requires both the support of Bulgaria and Moldova and their parliaments," Kirova added.
The MP concluded that she is certain that the institutions of Moldova will not allow the Bulgarian community to be lost, and that preserving the status of the district will ensure further strong support from the government of Bulgaria.
