Common aspiration of Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine to join European Union
Chisinau, Oct. 17 /MOLDPRES/- The common aspiration of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is to join the European Union and this is the future of our states. President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili made the statement at a joint press conference held today with President Maia Sandu.
Salome Zourabichvili said that today's visit is very important in the context of difficult times and aggressions in the region. "It is difficult to discuss bilateral relations against the background of the events in Ukraine. We condemn Russia's aggression against the sovereignty of Ukraine and the annexation of the territories of this country. The war in Ukraine represents a danger to the security of Europe and the whole world. We are with the Ukrainian people, we are countries in solidarity and we want to deepen our collaboration. The common aspiration of Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is to join the European Union and this is the future of our countries", said Salome Zourabichvili.
For her part, Maia Sandu said that today's visit will open a new chapter in Moldovan-Georgian relations and will give a new impetus to collaboration in several fields. At the same time, the president appreciated that, after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the two countries offered support and shelter to the Ukrainians, who fled the path of the war.
"In these times, the international community must do everything to stop Russian aggression and help Ukraine restore its territorial integrity. Without peace in Ukraine there can be no peace in Europe. The Republic of Moldova and Georgia have unregulated conflicts on their territories. I express my support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. Despite the difficulties, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia want a prosperous future for their citizens, and the intensification of bilateral collaboration can help us in this regard. We want to develop relations in the cultural-human sector and collaborate in combating propaganda. It is important to have open cooperation and exchange experience. We have clear European aspirations and we must do everything to speed up the implementation of the European dream of our countries, to live freely and safely", said Maia Sandu.
Salome Zourabichvili is today on a working visit to Chisinau. The last official visit of a Georgian president to the Republic of Moldova took place 12 years ago.
