Foreign Affairs Ministry says Moldova supports UK conclusions on cyber campaign by Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) today informed that Moldova fully supported the United Kingdom's conclusions regarding the cyber campaign conducted by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Federation (GRU) during the years 2015-2025.

According to the MAE, "these malicious activities represent a clear threat to European security and the rules-based international order."

"Russia's unprovoked aggression against Ukraine has revealed the extent of Moscow's desire to destabilize the region—both through military means and hybrid operations. Moldova fully expresses its solidarity with Ukraine and remains deeply aware of the risks generated by the continued Russian interference," the MAE underlined.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry also said that "Moldova has been the target of cyber attacks, disinformation campaigns and other hostile actions aimed at undermining our sovereignty and democratic institutions." Thus, the MAE condemned these actions, calling on all states to observe the international law and adhere to the UN framework for responsible behavior in cyberspace.

"We welcome the leadership efforts and the support provided by the United Kingdom in this field. Additionally, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening cyber resilience, both internally and regionally, together with reliable international partners," concluded the MAE.

The United Kingdom published a string of conclusions regarding the cyber campaign conducted by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian Federation (GRU) in the years 2015-2025, reading that "GRU used cyber operations to support Russia's military campaign."
