MEP: Speeding up Moldova's EU accession talks must be priority
MEP Siegfried Mureșan emphasized the need to accelerate the negotiations for Moldova's accession to the European Union after a meeting with Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration of Moldova. The discussions focused on assessing the progress in the accession process and identifying the next steps.
‘Moldova has made remarkable progress: negotiations were opened in less than two years, and the screening process was completed in record time,’ said Mureșan.
He noted that the European Parliament remains one of the strongest supporters of Moldova on its European path.
The MEP said that it is time for the European Union to open chapter negotiations so that Moldova can concretely advance on the European path.
‘The citizens of Moldova have consistently chosen the European path, including in the recent parliamentary elections. Europe must respond to this choice and seize the moment,’ Mureșan concluded.
Moldova has long expressed a clear option for European integration, signing the Association Agreement with the European Union in 2014 and obtaining candidate status in 2022.
