Moldova received status of candidate country for EU membership
Chisinau, June 23 / MOLDPRES /- Moldova and Ukraine have received the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union. The announcement was made tonight by European Council President Charles Michel.
The decision of the European Council was approved unanimously.
The European official congratulated the heads of state of the two countries and described the European Council's decision as "a historic moment".
Candidate status for the European Union can provide concrete benefits to a country, for example due to the fact that it becomes more attractive for investment, trade flows are easier and stability is greater.
Following the recommendations previously presented by the European Commission on granting the Republic of Moldova the status of candidate country for EU integration, the Chisinau authorities were determined in the process of advancing reforms in key areas such as justice, anti-corruption and public administration.
The application for our country's accession to the European Union was signed by the President of the Republic of Moldova on March 3.
