Moldovan Central Electoral Commission cancels registration of Heart of Moldova Party members as candidates for parliamentary polls within Patriotic Bloc
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has cancelled the registration of members of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova as candidates at the parliamentary elections within the Patriotic Electoral Bloc. The decision was taken today, based on the decision by the Centru Court of Appeal, which ordered the suspension of the activities of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova, led by Irina Vlah, for a period of 12 months.
The project was presented by CEC vice president Pavel Postica. He presented the measures imposed on the political formation based on the court's decision.
"During the period of limiting the activity of the political party, the latter is prohibited from participating individually or jointly in elections or referendums, producing, supplying, distributing and disseminating political advertising, founding mass media, organizing meetings at rallies, demonstrations, pickets, and other public actions. It is also banned from using all types of bank deposits, except in cases when discounts with contractors, payments related to fulfilling individual work contracts, compensating damages caused by the actions of the political party, and payments for taxes, duties and fines are necessary," said Pavel Postica.
Representatives of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova asked the CEC to postpone the examination of the subject, a proposal rejected by six out of nine members of the Commission. At the same time, representatives of the formation emphasized that they would appeal the decision of the Centru Court of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Justice. They also described the decision as "a political one," which would "affect the image and activity of the entire electoral bloc."
The Centru Court of Appeal on September 25 ruled to suspend the activities of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova for a period of 12 months. The decision was issued at a request by the Justice Ministry. According to the magistrates, the decision is enforceable, but can be appealed within 15 days.
In mid-September of this year, the CEC asked the Justice Ministry to limit the activities of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova, led by Irina Vlah. The electoral authority found that the formation had benefited from illegal financing during the election campaign.
On September 19, this year, Justice Ministry filed a lawsuit requesting the Centru Court of Appeal to order the limitation of activities of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova for a period of 12 months, as a precautionary measure, until the case is resolved on the merits.
The CEC's decision to cancel the registration of the members of the Republican Party Heart of Moldova as candidates at the parliamentary elections becomes effective on the date of adoption, is published on the official page of the Commission and can be challenged within three days at the Centru Court of Appeal.
