Chisinau, January 20 / MOLDPRES /- Central Electoral Authority held first meeting today to set up concept of digitizing the electoral process.
"The need to test and implement alternative voting methods in the Republic of Moldova has been discussed for several years, and this issue has become more prominent in recent national elections, which is a necessity dictated by the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. The training of experts from several public authorities in this activity demonstrates the state's determination in modernizing public services, by digitizing and making the processes accessible to all citizens ", central electoral authority head Angelica Caraman said.
The interinstitutional group consists of representatives of the Central Electoral Commission, the Intelligence and Security Service, the Ministry of Justice and digitization officials in the Republic of Moldova: the Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization, the Public Institution Electronic Government Agency, the Public Institution Public Services Agency and Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, as well as the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections. The group was created in late December by a decision of the CEC.
The task force is to develop the concept and action plan for digitizing the electoral process and piloting electronic voting through digital signatures.
