Moldovan parliament adopts law on preventing and combating terrorism

Chisinau, 23 June /MOLDPRES/- MPs today adopted a law on preventing and combating terrorism, which, according to the Security and Intelligence Service (SIS), becomes a threat, including for Moldova.

The document determines the legal and organizational framework of the activity of preventing and combating terrorism in Moldova, the coordination of the activities of the specialized subdivisions in the prevention and combating terrorism, the actions taken by the central and local public authorities, associations and public associations, responsible people. Antiterrorist Operational Command will be set up to conduct anti-terrorist operations.

“Detection of terrorist activity will be ensured by informative and counterinformative actions, by collecting, analyzing and processing data on factors that would endanger the security of the country”, the law reads.

Also, the document sets the creation of regional counterterrorism modules, which will be made up of district council leaders, SIS territorial representatives, police officers and representatives of the Civil Protection and Emergency Service.

The law includes new provisions to check airline passengers. In order to ensure anti-terrorist security measures, air companies operating flights to/from Moldova are obliged to pass the SIS, after boarding the aircraft, but not later than the time of take-off, the list of passengers so that they can be checked when crossing the border control in the country of destination.
