Moldovan parliament speaker gives speech at joint meeting of parliaments of Moldova, Romania
Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today gave a speech at the joint meeting of the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania. In his speech, the speaker said that the approach of Moldova to the European Union became visible and feasible due to the effort made by Romania through the voice of the officials and European MPs, who firmly promoted the idea to give status of country candidate for EU.
According to Igor Grosu, during time, Romania has been a truthful backer of Moldova; the spectrum of the areas of cooperation has extended much beyond the traditional character of the good-neighbour relations. Moldova has constantly benefited from the unconditional support and assistance of Romania, acquiring a special connotation starting from 2010 through the establishment of a bilateral Strategic Partnership for the support of Moldova’s European integration process.
“Romania has defended and promoted, during years, the cause of Moldova at the institutions of the European Union, as well as among the member states, which at different phases showed pretty skeptical attitudes for Moldova’s perspectives to manage to make its way towards the democracy, with a functional market economy and with a truthful rule of law state,’’ Grosu said.
The Moldovan parliament speaker noted that the world crises presently faced by all countries of the world quite strongly hit Moldova too. ‘’Yet, once again, the crises and difficulties served as possibility to consolidate the close friendship relation between our states, this fact being proved on innumerable occasions through the solidarity and openness of Romania to support Moldova. The today’s meeting inclusively is meant to confirm this fact. The ancestors’ saying ‘’a friend in need is a friend indeed’’ is a valuable truth for the citizens of both states. We are aware that, due to your support, dear friends, dear Romania, we can manage to be connected to Europe practically,’’ Igor Grosu added.
“Moldova’s approach to the European Union becomes visible, including due to the effort made by Romania through the voice of the officials and European MPs, who firmly promoted the idea to give the status of country candidate to EU. And they did this not only today, but also during years, through innumerable friends from Romania, who backed the cause of Moldova and did not leave us ‘’for later, for another time,’’ Igor Grosu added.
