Moldovan parliament speaker says discovery of new drone on territory of Moldova proves aggressive, expansionist nature of Russia
The discovery of a new drone on the territory of Moldova proves the aggressive and expansionist nature of the Russian Federation. The latter state does not respect and has never respected the territorial integrity of Moldova and has defied and desecrated the idea of neutrality. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu today made statements to this effect at a TVR MOLDOVA programme.
The official argued for summoning the accredited Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Moldova Oleg Ozerov, to be informed about this case and presented with the relevant evidence.
“Each time he tries to evade responsibility, to say that there is not enough evidence. The case in Drochia proves once again the aggressive and expansionist nature of the Russian Federation, which does not respect and has never respected the territorial integrity of Moldova. This state has defied and desecrated the idea of neutrality. These examples prove once again that the decision to invest this year in air defense is a justified one. As for drones, they represent a major challenge of our time not only for Moldova, but for all countries in the region and in the European Union. We must cope with these dangers,” Igor Grosu said.
The speaker noted that the law-enforcement bodies, which are present at the scene, were examining the aircraft and would later provide details about the drone discovered.
“The perimeter is secured and does not pose a danger to citizens. Following the investigations, law-enforcement officers will announce whether the drone carries an explosive payload. We must be vigilant and immediately report cases of discovering such objects. Specialized services will intervene and secure the area,” Igor Grosu specified.
A drone was discovered today outside the village of Sofia, northern Drochia district, in the direction of the Lazo settlement. The perimeter is secured and experts from the Technical and Explosives Section are to examine the object.
The case is being documented and the circumstances are to be established by the competent authorities.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry, after the discovery of a drone in Drochia district, said: “We condemn any incident that represents a violation of airspace and a threat to the security of citizens.”
