Moldovan premier-designate presents government programme in parliament
Chisinau, 18 February /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today convened at a plenary meeting, in a new attempt to elect the government. Chiril Gaburici, the candidate nominated for prime minister, presented the new cabinet's action programme to MPs.
The government action programme for the years 2015-2018, made public today, does not differ much from the one unveiled by Iurie Leanca in the parliament a week before. So, like the previous action programme, the new one contains 17 chapters, with the first one concerning the fighting of corruption. According to the prime minister-designate, strengthening the rule of law will be the absolute priority of the next government. Other priorities set out by Gaburici are: removing constraints that hamper the business environment and fighting corruption.
Chiril Gaburici said the office of prime minister was a big responsibility and he accepted the offer to run for this position after analysing the current political context, the steps taken by Moldova so far, opportunities and challenges the country was facing. "In my capacity of prime minister, I will continue all the previously initiated important processes, will ensure the continuity of the democratisation, reformation and European integration processes", said Gaburici.
In particular, the new government is set to invite a mission of EU experts to assist the law enforcement bodies, amend the procedure for appointing the Prosecutor General, to adopt a new Labour Code, revise the Criminal Procedure Code and adopt the Law on financing of political parties and election campaigns.
At the same time, the future government chooses to "promote a consistent and balanced foreign policy, in order to ensure the European course and strengthening relations with international partners." That would include, according to the programme, achieving political association and economic integration with the European Union and strengthen ing the dialogue with more countries, including Romania, USA, and Russia.
To elect a new government, the vote of at least 51 MPs is needed. This is the second attempt by the parliament to elect a new government after the Leanca II government failed to get the required number of votes on 12 February.
Gaburici was designated as candidate for the office of prime minister on 14 February. Chiril Gaburici was born on 23 November 1976 in the village of Loganesti, central Hincesti district. He is an economist and served as general manager of a mobile phone company in Moldova in 2008-2012.
