Ukraine condemns violation of Moldova’s airspace
Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha condemned the violation of the Republic of Moldova’s airspace by a Russian drone and expressed solidarity with Moldovan authorities and citizens.
The Ukrainian official condemned Russia’s actions and reaffirmed support for our country, emphasizing that threats to regional security require a common response.
“We stand with the Republic of Moldova in firmly condemning Russia’s blatant violation of Moldovan airspace. Dear Moldovan friends, you have our full solidarity. Moscow’s aggressive actions threaten security beyond Ukraine’s borders and require a firm and united European response,” Andrii Sybiha stated.
A drone fell today in the village of Chiștelnița, Telenești district. No casualties were reported. Law enforcement authorities are investigating the aircraft.
President Maia Sandu condemned the incident and said that it involved a Russian Geran attack drone, which crashed near residential buildings and an energy facility. The official emphasized that “the war waged by Russia continues to endanger the lives of citizens of the Republic of Moldova.”
Following the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared a staff member of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chișinău persona non grata. The institution stressed that “such actions are unacceptable and once again demonstrate the risks generated by the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine.”
The Ministry of Defense announced that two cases of violations of national airspace were recorded between October 16 and 23 of this year. The first incident occurred on the evening of October 16, while the second took place today, October 23. In both cases, the drones fell to the ground.
Since the beginning of this year, 65 incidents involving violations of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova have been recorded, including 17 in October. From 2022 to the present, the total number of recorded incidents has reached 102.
