
Venice Commission to consider four legislative initiatives
Chisinau, Oct. 3 /MOLDPRES/- This week, Venice Commission will consider four legislative initiatives set up by the Moldovan authorities.
According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, the opinions of the European Commission for Democracy through Law were requested by President Maia Sandu and the Ministry of Justice.
A draft opinion complementary to the opinion on the draft law on the Intelligence and Security Service, as well as on the draft law on counterintelligence and external intelligence activities will be considered for adoption. It will also be proposed to pass the joint opinion of the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law on the draft law on the anti-corruption judicial system and the amendment to some normative acts.
The legislative initiative, proposed by President Maia Sandu aims to strengthen efforts to fight corruption and to ensure a process of rapid and qualitative examination of complex corruption files. It regulates the organization and activity of the court specialized in corruption cases and the anti-corruption college of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.
The agenda of the plenary session also includes a joint follow-up project of the Venice Commission and the Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the previous opinions on the draft law on the external evaluation of judges and prosecutors. The joint opinion of the Venice Commission and the OSCE will be examined on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Code, which provide that members of political parties declared unconstitutional will not be able to be elected for a period of three to five years.
This week's 136th plenary session of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) will be attended by the head of the legal committee on rules and immunities, Olesea Stamate.
