Norwegian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova was inaugurated in Chișinău. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi said that this is an important step marking a new stage in the relations between the two states.

Popșoi attended the inauguration event alongside Norway's State Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eivind Vad Petersson.

In his message, Popșoi emphasized that the new diplomatic presence will significantly contribute to the deepening of Moldovan-Norwegian relations, which have experienced dynamic development in recent years, thanks to continuous support and projects implemented by Norway.

“Our partnership is truly a testament to the excellent relations we have. The support provided by the Norwegian people has proven to be extremely valuable over time for the Republic of Moldova. Our cooperation significantly contributes to strengthening resilience in the energy sector – where we have made remarkable progress – to economic development, and to strengthening civil society and democratic institutions,” declared Popșoi.

The Norwegian diplomat emphasized that the opening of the Embassy of Norway's office in Chișinău marks a new stage in strengthening bilateral relations. Furthermore, it was expressed hope that this could be a “first step towards an even more lasting presence” of Norway in the Republic of Moldova.

“We are impressed by the way the Republic of Moldova, despite numerous challenges, has advanced on the path of democratic reforms and opened accession negotiations with the European Union. A stable and democratic Moldova is important for the whole of Europe. We will continue to support the country's resilience through the Nansen program, in key areas such as energy, governance, education, and combating misinformation,” mentioned Secretary of State Eivind Van Petersson.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Norway were established in 1992. Norway has provided support through concrete projects in essential areas such as good governance, human rights, as well as by supporting Ukrainian refugees and strengthening the country's energy resilience.
