Border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova attacked by drones
Mirnoe (Republic of Moldova) – Tabachi (Ukraine) border crossing point operation was suspended on the night of 21 August 2026, after several Shahed-type drones attacked the area on Ukrainian territory, approximately 300 meters from the state border of the Republic of Moldova, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The incident occurred at around 00:35. Border Police patrols on duty heard sounds characteristic of unmanned aerial vehicles and observed several explosions on Ukrainian territory, in the area of the Tabachi border crossing point.
According to Moldovan authorities, the drones fell on Ukrainian territory and, as a result of the attack, the Ukrainian border crossing point was damaged. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine confirmed the incident at 01:00. Ukrainian authorities announced that buildings and structures of the crossing point were damaged by the attack, and the fires that broke out in the area were contained by employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. According to preliminary information, no casualties have been reported.
Following the incident, the crossing of persons and vehicles through the Tabachi border crossing point was suspended, and traffic is being redirected to other crossing points. On the territory of the Republic of Moldova, no drone fragments or other objects posing risks to the population have been identified so far.
The Border Police has mobilized its subdivisions in the region, including the Cișmichioi, Copceac, and Giurgiulești Border Police sectors. The Border Police, the Customs Service, and the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations are monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with the competent authorities in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges the population to remain calm in the event of specific drone noises or explosions near the border, to take shelter in a safe place, and to follow only information communicated by the authorities.
Citizens are warned not to approach possible drone fragments, munitions, or other unknown objects and to notify the authorities immediately via the 112 Service.
Tabachi incident occurred one day after another reported attack on the Ukrainian Reni border crossing point, located near the border with the Republic of Moldova.
