Chance Party of Moldova to be dissolved, activity of other tree parties to be restricted

The Chance political party will be dissolved, while the activities of three other political formations associated with the former Shor Party, declared unconstitutional in 2023, have been restricted. The decision today was issued by the Chisinau Court of Appeal, Centru branch. The rulings were adopted after examining the applications submitted by the Justice Ministry.

The court upheld the Justice Ministry’s request to dissolve the Chance Political Party, a formation established in the summer of 2023, shortly after the former Shor  Party was declared unconstitutional.

At the same time, the Court of Appeal Centru ordered the restriction of the activities of the Renaissance Party and the Alternative Force and Salvation of Moldova Party (FASM) for a period of six months. In a separate case, the court ruled to restrict the activities of the Great Moldova Party for a term of 12 months.

The leader of the Chance Party, Alexei Lungu, criticized the court’s decision and announced that it would be challenged.

“We will challenge the decision at the Supreme Court of Justice, and if necessary, we will also turn to the European Court of Human Rights,” said Alexei Lungu.

The procedure for dissolving the Chance Party was initiated in March 2025, after the Justice Ministry had petitioned the court following a request submitted by the Central Electoral Commission. The CEC invoked repeated infringements committed by the party and requested the initiation of the dissolution procedure.

The Chance Party is considered close to the former Shor Party and to Ilan Shor, who was definitively convicted in the bank fraud case. The formation has previously been the subject of more investigations. The decisions of the Chisinau Court of Appeal, Centru branch, can be appealed to a higher court.
