CNA detained colonel of defense ministry on extorting 800 euros
Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/- Commander of Edinet Territorial Military Center of the Defense Ministry was in sight of CNA and anti-corruption prosecutors, after allegedly extorting and receiving 800 euros from a young man to release the army.
According to the CNA, the colonel promised to issue the recruitment document, without the 18-year-old being incorporated and doing military service in the Armed Forces. The official would have conditioned the money to be sent to him in several installments, the first being 200 euros, together with the package of necessary documents.
A criminal case was initiated for passive corruption. If found guilty, the colonel risks prison sentence of up to 7 years with a fine of 80,000 to 120,000 lei and deprivation of the right to hold certain public office for a term of 5 to 10 years.
