
Detentions take place in customs bribery case in Moldova
An accomplice of the Central Customs Office chief today morning was detained by officers of the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) and prosecutors from Balti municipality, within the criminal case concerning passive bribery under aggravating circumstances.
According to the cited source, the man is a close relative of the already detained official and allegedly acted as an intermediary in the bribery collection scheme, in order to facilitate the import of goods intended for the Transnistrian region.
The suspect was detained for 72 hours and is under criminal investigation for complicity in passive bribery. Today morning, searches were conducted at his home and other associated locations.
On May 21, the Central Customs Office chief and a customs broker were detained in the same case. Later, the head of the Internal Customs Post Causeni was also detained. Following criminal investigation actions, investigators seized several mobile phones and a sum of about 1.1 million lei, considered part of the illicit profits.
