General Migration Inspectorate urged foreigners, including Ukrainian citizens to legalize stay in Moldova
Chisinau, Aug. 3 /MOLDPRES/- The General Migration Inspectorate today urged foreigners, including Ukrainian citizens, to legalize their stay in Moldova.
IGM head Mihail Vodă said that on May 10, the Commission for Emergency Situations decided that starting from May 15, all citizens of Ukraine and their family members will be able to be on the territory of the country for 90 days, over 180 days, which is an international standard.
"The simplest and fastest way to legalize the status is temporary protection. People can benefit from the right of residence or apply for asylum on the territory of the country. By legalizing the stay, the Republic of Moldova offers guarantees and access to health, education, social assistance, access to the labor market. Starting from February 24 last year and until now, 15 thousand asylum applications have been received. Thus, in the asylum system there are 700 people who benefit from protection. There are more than 7,000 citizens of Ukraine with residence permits. Over 16,500 people applied for temporary protection, 10,300 thousand have already obtained the document, 3,400 of them being minors", said Mihail Vodă.
According to the leadership of the General Inspectorate for Migration, the institution has the capacity to document all persons. The work process is carried out in 12 locations in the country. At the same time, five mobile teams deal with the documentation of people with special needs.
Registration of the foreign citizen at a person's residence does not give him any property rights, so the foreigner will be on record.
According to the General Inspectorate for Migration, there are currently over 100 thousand citizens of Ukraine in the country. About 65 thousand of them have been in the Republic of Moldova for more than 90 days and are about to legalize their status. More than half of the people are minors.
