
Journalist Vasile Botnaru - new member of Audiovisual Council
Journalist Vasile Botnaru was appointed today as a member of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Moldova. 56 MPs voted in favor of his candidacy.
His candidacy was put forward by the Action and Solidarity Party faction. Vasile Botnaru has a career spanning over three decades in journalism, being known for his work as director of Free Europe Radio in Chisinau, founder of BASA-Press agency, and as a correspondent for Associated Press. He has also worked as a university professor.
In 2009, Botnaru was awarded the Order of the Republic, the highest state distinction of the Republic of Moldova, for his contribution to the promotion of press freedom.
The Audiovisual Council is composed of seven members, appointed by the parliament at the proposal of parliamentary factions, Presidency, Government and civil society.
