MAI: Drone debris of Geran type discovered near Giurgiulești
The remains of a Geran-type drone were identified near the locality of Giurgiulești, after explosive ordnance experts from the General Police Inspectorate carried out preliminary investigations at the incident site.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the investigations revealed two craters formed by the explosion. One measures approximately 1.20 by 1.15 meters, while the other is about 3.70 by 3.90 meters and has a depth of approximately 55 centimeters.
Inside the craters, metal fragments resulting from the detonation of the warhead were found. At a distance of about six meters from one of the craters, fragments of the engine and several components of the drone were discovered.
According to the experts’ preliminary findings, the debris belongs to an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Geran type. The investigation continues to determine all the circumstances of the incident, including the flight path of the aircraft and other relevant elements.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reiterates its call to citizens not to approach fragments of aircraft, munitions, or other unknown objects and to immediately notify the authorities via the 112 Service.
Three incidents were recorded today in the Republic of Moldova following attacks by the Russian Federation on port infrastructure in Reni. At 03:16, the airspace surveillance systems of the National Army detected and monitored an unauthorized flight.
A drone, preliminarily identified as a Shahed-136 (Geran-2) type, illegally entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from the direction of the locality of Cotlovina, Reni region (Ukraine), flying over national territory in the direction of the village of Etulia, Gagauzia. The aircraft left the airspace of the Republic of Moldova at 03:22, returning to Ukrainian territory. At approximately 03:45, a patrol from the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector, on duty at the Giurgiulești–Reni Border Crossing Point, observed an explosion in a parking lot for trucks located on the territory of Ukraine, about 150 meters from the border.
Following the explosion, a vegetation fire spread over an estimated area of 70–100 m² on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. At 03:50, a crew from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations was requested, and the fire was contained at 04:30.
At 09:25, a mobile patrol of the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector identified, approximately 1,000 meters from the state border, on our national territory, a crater inside which were the remains of a drone, including the engine, the power board, and propeller elements.
