Minister Claudiu Năsui responds to criticism after appointment to Moldovan Government: Some shared problems also have shared solutions

New Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Claudiu Năsui has responded to public criticism regarding his appointment to the Government of the Republic of Moldova, noting that the professional experience he has gained in Romania and other countries can be used to support reforms in Chișinău.

“Let me tell you, Moldovans are extraordinary people, highly professional, extremely competent. I have met and been colleagues with many of them, both in my master’s program and during my studies. Unfortunately, many of them stayed in those countries. Many Romanians also stayed in those countries,” Claudiu Năsui said.

The minister argued that appointing a person to a public office should be assessed in relation to the policies that person is able to promote and implement.

“The Americans have a saying: the people you choose are the public policy you actually choose. I believe there is a pretty good match here between what Prime Minister Tofan wants and what he thinks is needed, and not only in the Republic of Moldova, but everywhere,” Năsui said.

He emphasized that the problems facing states can be similar, even if the countries are different, and that solutions successfully applied in one context can be adapted in other states as well.

“Even if countries are different, sometimes the illness is the same, and some shared problems also have shared solutions. It no longer matters which country it is; what matters is to put that policy in place, to deliver it, and that is what I came here to do,” the new minister declared.

Claudiu Năsui today took over the portfolio of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitization and took the oath of office at the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.

The appointment of Claudiu Năsui, a politician and former minister of Romania, as Minister of Economic Development and Digitization in the new Government in Chișinău has sparked criticism in the public sphere, with questions raised about the appropriateness of designating a person from outside the Republic of Moldova, given that candidates from within the country could have been identified for this position.
