Moldovan MP sentenced to seven years, six months in semi-closed prison
The judges of the Chisinau Court, Buiucani branch, today announced the verdict in the case of MP Marina Tauber. She was sentenced to seven years and six months in a semi-closed type prison and has been declared wanted.
The elected representative was deprived of the right to hold public offices and to get involved in activities related to accounting and financial organization in political parties for a period of five years.
According to the court's ruling, the sentence will begin from the moment of arrest.
Marina Tauber described the case as a political one, “stitched with white thread,” without evidence.
She was accused of falsifying reports regarding the financing of the electoral campaign and the political party, accepting illegal financing from an organized crime ring, as well as interfering with the administration of justice.
At the same time, the Shor political party ss also involved in the case, accused of two counts: falsifying financial reports and accepting illegal financing. Prosecutors requested the recognition of the legal entity's guilt, although they asked for the termination of the criminal proceedings against the party, as a result of its dissolution by the decision of the Constitutional Court.
Marina Tauber left Moldova in the beginning of this year, and her last public appearance was on July 6, in Moscow, alongside Ilan Shor, during a Congress of the Victory political bloc.
