Moldovan official journal roundup for 30 October
Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/- The methodologies for identifying nitrate vulnerable areas and nutrient sensitive areas, approved by the government will be published in the Official Journal on 30 October. The control over their execution will belong to the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment.
The methodology sets out the approaches and criteria for designating the areas to ensure environmental protection from the negative effects of nitrates used in agriculture, reduce water pollution with nitrates from agricultural sources, optimize use of chemical and organic fertilizers containing nitrogen compounds. There are three types of vulnerable zones in Moldova: potential vulnerable zones; vulnerable areas with current sources and vulnerable areas with historical sources.
The methodology sets out the approaches and criteria for delimiting water bodies subject to eutrophication, in order to ensure adequate wastewater treatment and water protection in natural receptors, so that the content of certain forms of nitrogen and phosphorus does not growth trends, a situation which must lead to the elimination or at least reduction of the eutrophication potential of surface waters. According to the government decision, the nutrient-sensitive area is the surface water where there are exceedances of normal values of nitrogen and phosphorus above the permissible limit, due to the discharge of wastewater.
The decision enters into force tomorrow upon publication in the Official Journal.
