New details emerge about crashed, exploded drone in field in north Moldova district

New details were established following on-site investigations after an unmanned aerial vehicle had crashed and exploded on agricultural land outside Scaieni village, northern Donduseni district.

According to a preliminary examination, a crater approximately 350 millimeters in diameter and 150 millimeters deep was identified at the impact site. Elements with potentially destructive capabilities were noticed inside it, the Police said in a statement.

In addition, the aircraft’s internal combustion engine, fuel tank and more fragments of the drone’s body were discovered within 100 meters of the crater.

The investigations are continuing, with specialized examinations to be carried out and all items found at the scene to be identified.

Authorities are to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident.

We remind you that the incident was reported on October 16, after the unmanned aerial vehicle had crashed and exploded in a field outside Codrenii Noi, in the direction of Scaieni village, Donduseni district. Also on this day, authorities announced more cases of unauthorized overflight of Moldova’s airspace, including in the districts of Soroca, Stefan Voda and Ocnita.

According to data previously provided by the Defense Ministry, 63 incidents involving violations of the national airspace have been recorded since the beginning of 2026, of which 15 in October.

Authorities urge citizens not to approach or touch drones or their fragments, if they find them, and to immediately call the emergency service at 112.
