Over 2000 people launch government's spring afforestation program
Over 2000 people, including ministers, state officials, and representatives of private companies, launched today the government's spring reforestation program, organized by the Ministry of Environment. Plantings were carried out in over 120 locations across the country.
Present at the planting event in Geamăna, Anenii Noi, government spokesperson Daniel Vodă said that over 130,000 saplings were planted at this location.
“Today everyone met at Generation Forest, the largest government reforestation program. In this spring edition of the afforestation campaign, we have over 120 locations throughout the country. We invite everyone to contribute to the great national planting initiative. Let's plant for our country, because Moldova can, for a healthier environment through everyone's involvement,” Vodă said.
The Ministry of Environment, together with Moldsilva, has set a goal to plant 3500 hectares of forest this spring.
In 2025, it is planned to plant at least 7,000 hectares of forest, similar to the targets set for 2024.
In ten years, forested areas will be expanded by about 150,000 hectares, both on new lands and heavily degraded forest lands, public property or, for the first time, on private property. These provisions are included in the National Program for the Extension and Rehabilitation of Forests 2023 - 2032, proposed and initiated by President Maia Sandu.
