President Maia Sandu has visited the construction site of a new military base in central Moldova Bacioi settlement. The camp will provide modern accommodation and training conditions for soldiers, in line with the best international practices.

The official emphasized that the new unit would significantly improve the living and training conditions of the military personnel.

“For many years, we have been talking about the poor conditions in which Moldovan soldiers live and train. Finally, things are changing for the better. This is what the construction site of the new military unit in Bacioi looks like. The camp will provide modern accommodation and training conditions, in line with the best international practices,” Maia Sandu said.

The head of state noted that investments in the field of defense were essential for ensuring stability in the country.

“Investments in defense are investments in peace, in stability and in the confidence that, in a complicated world, we can take care of one another and honorably fulfill our duty to the country,” Maia Sandu stressed.

The new military unit in Bacioi is to be built by 2027. It will host the soldiers of the 2nd Motorized Infantry Brigade Stefan cel Mare, who are currently stationed in the Buiucani district of the capital.

This is the first military camp built since independence. The project is part of the strategy to modernize the infrastructure of the National Army. Investments in the construction of the Bacioi military camp have exceeded 500 million lei, funds allocated from the state budget.
