Prime Minister: Government to propose to Parliament termination of state of emergency

The Government will propose to Parliament the termination of the state of emergency. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu made the statement at the beginning of the Cabinet meeting.

He said that the introduction of the state of emergency allowed the authorities to intervene quickly and protect citizens.

"I believe that the state of emergency has achieved its purpose. We intervened in time, we kept the situation under control, and we protected the citizens. Under these conditions, the Government will propose to Parliament the termination of the state of emergency and we will appear at a plenary session, as we promised. We are returning to normality—actually to a relative normality—because we are aware that new challenges and new risks await us, and we will continue to work together, with all the teams, for the good and protection of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova," said Munteanu.

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova introduced a nationwide state of emergency for a period of 60 days, starting on March 25, 2026, at the Government’s proposal, after the Isaccea–Vulcănești overhead power line was disconnected on the evening of Monday, March 23, following attacks on energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

Last week, the National Crisis Management Center (CNMC) made public the interim integrated report on the actions taken during the state of emergency in the energy sector. The document provides an overview of the context that led to the introduction of the state of emergency, the measures adopted by the authorities, and their impact on the stability of the power system and the petroleum products market.
