State Flag Day celebrated on 27 April
Moldova celebrates State Flag Day on 27 April. Government spokesman Daniel Vodă said that the state flag is the symbol that unites us and urged citizens to proudly hoist the tricolor.
“April 27 is a significant date in the calendar of the Republic of Moldova, it is the National Flag Day. We honor the symbol that unites us all, from north to south, from east to west, the Gagauz Autonomy or any other village or town; the tricolor reminds us of the things that unite us around our country - the Republic of Moldova. On April 27 we mark the State Flag Day, a day with profound historical and symbolic significance for our country,” said Daniel Vodă.
According to Daniel Vodă, the official flag-raising ceremony, which has already become a tradition will take place on April 27, in front of the Government, starting at 8:00 AM, in the presence of the country's leadership.
“Flag Day reminds us that the tricolor is the link between generations and is the guarantee of shared future. It's the day when we remember with dignity and hope that we are all Moldova and together Moldova can, proud of our flag and proud that we are part of a common community. The tricolor is with us when our students step onto international podiums at school Olympiads and international competitions, when our athletes win medals, when our army participates in international peace missions, and when the Moldovan diaspora affirms its roots wherever it is in the world. The flag is the silent witness to all our achievements,” he said.
Daniel Vodă urged citizens to raise the state flag in front of houses, on institutions, in villages and cities across the country.
The tricolor was designated as the state flag on 27 April 1990 by the deputies of the first Parliament, being hoisted on the same day on the building of the Legislature. State Flag Day was set up by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on 23 April 2010.
The State Flag is a major official symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova.
