The Government will allocate 145 million lei to support development projects in the 17 localities of Călărași district that have decided to merge and form a consolidated local public administration. Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu made the statement.

According to the official, the funds will be invested in modernizing infrastructure and improving public services provided to citizens in the communities that opted for voluntary amalgamation.

“145 million lei will be allocated by the Government for the 17 localities in Călărași district that decided to unite and form a stronger, more consolidated and more efficient local administration,” said Alexei Buzu.

The Secretary General of the Government specified that the investments will contribute to implementing development projects tailored to residents’ needs and to improving the quality of public services.

“This money is for modern infrastructure, higher-quality public services and development projects that will respond to people’s needs,” Alexei Buzu emphasized.

In late January, the Government officially announced the launch of the process of preparing the local public administration reform, as part of efforts to modernize administration and increase the quality of public services provided to the population. Subsequently, extensive consultations on the reform were held with all interested parties, after which the Government presented the reform concept.

According to the most recent data presented by the authorities, more than 700 decisions to initiate amalgamation have been approved so far, covering about 87% of all town halls in the Republic of Moldova.
