
Moldovan rower became world champion for first time
Chisinau, August 8 /MOLDPRES/- Rower Serghei Tarnovschi became the world champion, after last night's competition held at the Canada Kayak-Canoe World Cup.
The 25-year-old Moldovan athlete won the gold medal in the 5000 meters. Tarnovschi recorded a time of 23 minutes, 37 seconds and 85 hundredths of a second, just 9 hundredths of a second ahead of Cuba's Serguey Madrigal. The bronze was obtained by the German Sebastian Brendel.
Also, the Daniela Cociu - Maria Olărașu duet took 7th place at the World Cup in Canada in kayak-canoe over the distance of 500 meters, repeating the same result as at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
