Chisinau, 30 October /MOLDPRES/- The 91st anniversary of Turkey's foundation was marked on 29 October. The event was organised by the Turkish Embassy in Chisinau.

Attending the action were First Lady of Moldova Margareta Timofti and representatives of diplomatic corps accredited to Chisinau.

President Nicolae Timofti conveyed a congratulatory message to his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"I note with much joy Turkey's great achievements - a country that consistently edifies freedom, democracy and welfare. I also appreciate the good relations between Moldova and Turkey, the more so as 2014 has been fruitful in this respect, after the entrance into force of the agreement on abolition of visa regime and signing of the bilateral free trade agreement. I am firmly sure that the Moldovan-Turkish friendship and cooperation relations will continue to develop in the long run as well, for the benefit of both nations," Timofti said.

At the same time, the president thanked for the support of Turkey with a view of backing Moldova's European option. At the event, Turkish Ambassador to Chisinau Mehmet Selim Kartal highly appreciated the Moldovan-Turkish ties and noted that Moldova was an integral part of the European family, which represented norms and universal values in an extended geographical area.

At present, Turkey is the 16th biggest economy of the world and the sixth in Europe. The country is guided by principles of the rule of law state, social equality and economic development. This has become possible though its deeply rooted tradition of statehood and adoption of the democratic and lay principles.

The Republic of Turkey was founded on 29 October 1923.
