Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti, along with Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski, today participated in a ceremony of unveiling the bust of Marshal Josef Pilsudski in Chisinau, the presidential press service has reported.

In his speech, Komorowski expressed satisfaction with the current level of friendship relations between Poland and Moldova. He said the Polish people was honored that the merits of great state man Josef Pilsudski were appreciated in Moldova.

Timofti praised the fight of the brilliant Polish politician for freedom and independence of his country.

Timofti delivered the following speech:

“Dear Mr. President Komorowski,

Distinguished audience,

I am delighted to participate in the ceremony of unveiling the bust of Polish Marshal Josef Pilsudski in Chisinau.

The personality of Marshal Josef Pilsudski, who was the first head of state of Poland and founder of Polish armed forces, marked not only the history of his country, but of Europe too.

Josef Pilsudski was actively involved in the national liberation movement by the time when Poland was occupied by Tsarist Russia, advocating for the restoration of independence of his country.

His efforts were not in vain. On 11 November 1918, it was proclaimed the independence of the Second Republic of Poland.

One of his merits is saving Europe from the horrors of Bolshevism.

His public activity also remains an example to follow. He was not interested in the signs of power, but in the interest of welfare and security of his country.

Unveiling of the bust in Chisinau represents homage to the one who by his actions showed that freedom and independence of his country are values worth fighting till the sacrifice.

I will conclude this speech with a call to learn this lesson of history”.

The Marshal visited the Polish Consulate in Chisinau in April 1932.

The bust of the great politician was carried out by Moldovan sculptor Veaceslav Jiglitchi.
