First Colonoscopy Screening Centre inaugurated in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/-The first Colonoscopy Screening Centre was inaugurated at the Institute of Oncology today. The centre is meant for the early discovering of colorectal cancer.

At the inauguration, Health Minister Andrei Usatii said the new centre would contribute to decreasing the morbidity and death rate by colorectal cancer. Each year, about 700 persons die in Moldova because of this malady. It ranks first in the structure of oncological diseases and first among the diseases of the digestive tract organs.

The minister said the centre's beneficiaries would be persons of all the social categories, especially those having mandatory health insurance policy. At the same time, the centre's employees will work in better conditions, and this will enhance the quality of medical services provided to people, he added.

The inauguration of the Colonoscopy Screening Centre was possible thanks to the financial support of the Moldovan government, in cooperation with the JIKA Agency of Japan. The project's overall value is about 47 million lei (2.4 million euros), of which 34 million lei was provided by JIKA, 4 million lei - by the National Health Insurance Company and 1.5 million lei was earmarked by the Oncological Institute.
