Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today summoned the parliamentary factions of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Democratic Party (PDM), Party of Communists (PCRM) and Liberal Party (PL) for consultations on designating a candidate for the office of prime minister at the state residence.

The Liberal Democrats was the first to come. After the consultations, PLDM leader Vlad Filat said the party proposed the candidacy of Iurie Leanca for the post of prime minister.

PDM leader Marian Lupu said the Democrat MPs would back any candidacy put up by PLDM. „This is a correct position. PLDM did not give us instructions as to the person who has to be forwarded for the speaker office. And we act the same way,” Lupu said.

The head of PCRM parliamentary faction, Violeta Ivanov, said that the party has certain conditions, in order to back the government. „We conditioned some issues, including names for which we can vote the minority government. PLDM and PDM know PCRM’s conditions,” Ivanov said. She refused to specify if the Communist MPs would back the candidacy of Iurie Leanca for the post of prime minister.

Following the meeting with President Timofti, PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said the Liberals were to decide, within the party, whether to support or not the candidate who would be forwarded for the PM office.

President spokesperson Vlad Turcanu said that Nicolae Timofti would take a decision on nominating the candidate for the post of prime minister on the days to come.

Under the Constitution, the candidate for the prime minister office is to request the parliament’s confidence vote for the action programme and full list of the government within 15 days after the designation.
