Moldovan parliament to attend interparliamentary meeting

Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/- The parliament of Moldova has been invited to attend a meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Interparliamentary Assembly, due in St.Petersburg on 16-17 April, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

Secretary General of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly's Council Aleksey Sergeyev made the invitation to Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu at a meeting.

Candu said that the parliament was currently giving the final touches to the composition of the parliamentary delegations. He noted that the CIS IPA represented an important platform for talks and an opportunity to continue and develop the inter-parliamentary ties in this format.

The discussions between the officials were also focused on the agenda of the meeting of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, including the plenary session and CIS IPA Council, as well as the schedule of activities planned for 2015.

Sergeyev touched upon the efficient activity carried out over the years by the Moldovan MPs at events organised by the CIS IPA, including while elaborating model laws, especially in the ecology and agricultural sectors, as well as participating in the missions of observers in elections from the CIS states. He said that 150 laws presently were under development and were to be discussed and adopted by the MPs of the CIS member states.

The officials agreed on continuing the Moldovan-Russian inter-parliamentary ties and expressed openness for bolstering them in the interest of citizens from both states.

Attending the event was also Representative of Moldovan parliament at CIS IPA Ion Lipciu.
