Chisinau, 4 May /MOLDPRES/ - Lithuania and Sweden will continue to support Moldova's European integration path and encourage the authorities in their efforts to modernise the country. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Lithuanian and Swedish Foreign Ministers Linas Linkevicius and Margot Wallstrom made statements to this effect today during a meeting today, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker thanked the European officials for supporting Moldova, noting that Lithuania and Sweden were among the closest friends of Moldova and two of its most important development partners, with various socio-economic development projects.

Andrian Candu reiterated the authorities' determination to continue implementing the European agenda, with emphasis on the reform of the justice system, economy, banking, audiovisual and fight against corruption. The speaker also committed himself to get the parliament to approve the draft law on Prosecution by the end of the current spring session.

"It is important for the results of the reforms to be felt by the citizens in the shortest time, therefore the authorities must quickly move from words to action, in order to not permanently lose the trust of the population and development partners," said the parliament speaker.

At the same time, Andrian Candu requested the assistance of Lithuania and Sweden in upgrading the institutional capacity of the parliament, including in implementing the e-parliament concept.

Foreign Ministers Linas Linkevicius and Margot Wallstrom reconfirmed the support offered to Moldova in implementing the European agenda, and encouraged the authorities to continue efforts to modernise the country by achieving concrete results.

The European diplomats are paying a joint visit to Moldova on 4-5 May, the eve of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga.
