Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/- The quick formation of a new government in Chisinau is necessary for continuing bilateral projects and supporting Moldova's European integration. Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu made statements to this effect at a today's joint news conference with the head of Moldovan diplomacy, Natalia Gherman.

Aurescu said "the last Sunday local elections reconfirmed the fact that there is a clear choice on behalf of Moldovans for the country's European integration".

"We hope that a new government will be formed as soon as possible for Moldova's stability. It is necessary to create a parliamentary majority to maintain the country's European integration. No one can take the European prospect, it is part of the Moldovans' genetic code," he said.

For her part, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Gherman said that Romania continued to be the main trade partner of Moldova.

"Romania's apolitical support for the European integration of Moldova was manifested in a string of concrete results, such as: launch of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline, lifting bridge in Ungheni across the Prut river, cross border cooperation programmes, etc", she said.

Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu is on a two-day visit to Moldova. The official will also meet President Nicolae Timofti.
