Chisinau, 28 July /MOLDPRES/ - Valeriu Strelet was officially nominated as candidate for the post of prime minister. President Nicolae Timofti signed the decree appointing the Liberal Democratic Party’s (PLDM) deputy leader to this office on 27 July.

According to the president, the decision was taken after he held consultations with the Alliance for European Integration leaders. '' I signed the decree. The submitted candidacy is a good one, because Strelet is an experienced man, both in life and politics. We will support all his further actions. He will soon present the programme for government and the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers'', said Nicolae Timofti.

At the end of the consultations with the president, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said that the PLDM members did not reach the necessary consensus to nominate the party's former candidate for the office of premier, Maia Sandu.

According to legislation, the premier-designate has to ask for a vote of confidence in parliament on his programme of activities and nominal composition of the government within 15 days.

The deputy leader of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet is 45 years old, is married and has four children. He began his political activity in 1994 and over the years held more offices. In 2007 he was appointed deputy leader of the PLDM, and has been leading the PLDM fraction in the parliament since 2011.
